So I just watched a reality show about a kid who spent a few years in a juvenile correctional facility and was about to get out and start a new life and try to make his mom proud. The day he was getting released his mom didn’t show up and the warden was literally like “welp. I guess it’s back to your cell then.” And they put him back in jail.

I miss this show so much.

My Mother

I’ve posted on here about my sister and my dad. But I’ve noticed that I don’t talk a lot about my mother. I’ve made remarks about her but I’ve never took the time to explain who she is. It can be easily said that her and I don’t have the ideal relationship. It can also be said that it is mostly my fault. We fight a lot and we rarely agree on things. What annoys me the most about my mother is that she always gives the best advice. When I’m about to make a big decision she will steer me in the right way but usually I do the opposite just to be rebellious. And of course I come back with my head down and go the other way. Because she is always right. What I love about her is the grace she has for everyone. I remember a time when me and my dad had gotten in a huge fight. I had done something stupid and I was very ashamed for my actions. They found out what I had done and I bolted. I left my house to drive around all night. When I returned my dad was gone and had searched for me the whole night. My mom sat on the couch and looked me in the eye and told me that no matter what I’ve done that I can always come home. That nothing is as bad as me not coming home. She forgives and forgives and forgives. I bombed a test one time and I expected to get yelled at. I was really down about it and my mom told me to smile. Not what I expected. She told me to smile, even if it was a fake smile, because eventually it will turn into a real one.

But apart from all of that. The one thing I love most about my mom is that she knows me. She knows me better than my dad and my sister and all of my friends. She does this really cheesy thing that I secretly love. Her and I could be fighting for hours. Screaming at each other about school or work or money or whatever. And right in the middle of the fight my mom will stop and look me in the eyes. She’ll start to grin and just say “I see you.” I can’t explain why. But at the pinnacle of my anger and frustration and yelling I will start to smile when she says that. I absolutely can’t not smile when she looks me in the eye and says “I see you.” I guess it’s because it’s confirmation that an angry yelling mad man isn’t who I am. I guess it’s because my mother is the only one who can do that to me and have any effect. She knows who I am. She sees past any mask I put on to impress anybody else and she can find the care free smiling boy that I am.

I love my mom tremendously. She will always be the person that knows who I am to the fullest. She will always be the woman who sets me straight even when I don’t want to. She will always be the woman who forgives me and loves me when I make stupid decisions. I’m glad she is my mother. When we fight, when we’re smiling, when we’re content, when we aren’t around. I’m glad she’s my mother.
